Alright, alright… Before we go any further, let’s point out that this is not an official Facebook comment on the new Android OS. It’s an off the record discussion held by Michael Arrington with members of the company. It should also be noted that another staffer called the platform “vaporware“. Really. Did that guy know that yesterday real, tangible devices were sold in real, live stores?
What’s the brouhaha? We’re throwing darts here, but it probably stems from the fact that Facebook chose Microsoft to help with their ads and not Google. You see, Google was already paired up with MySpace which kinda like sleeping with the enemy. Oh, and Facebook blocked Google’s FriendConnect. And who can forget that Google put out their own social network Orkut? Last, but not least, Google put together the Open Social Network, which works well with Facebook’s competitors like Bebo, MySpace, and more.
Officially, Facebook is no developing for Android and have no plans to. They are leaving it up to 3rd party developers. We say, give it a few weeks and something will be in the Market and when that app is compelling enough, Facebook will wish they weren’t being so grumpy.
