One of the chief concerns with the G1 and/or Android was the lack of a VoIP client. When the G1 was announced last month, one of the biggest questions asked was why there wasn’t one and who was to blame for. We’re not pointing fingers at anyone, nor do we need to any longer.
Yesterday saw the release of iSkoot for Skype, the first VoIP client for Android. For those just tuning in, iSkoot has previously been released for J2ME, Symbian, Windows Mobile , BlackBerry, and more.
We are honored to be the first mobile VoIP application available in the Android Market because we are dedicated to bringing carrier-grade Web communications services to mobile phones and platforms around the globe. iSkoot continues to work on delivering innovative products that give people a rich mobile experience so that they can cut the cord from their desktop. – Jim Hudak, iSkoot VP of Business Development.
EDIT: Thanks to our sharp readers, we went ahead and removed the part of the article concerning minute usage. To clear things up, we’re showing what iSkoot’s FAQ’s list under the topic.
You will be charged by your mobile network provider for air time and for data traffic based on the type of data service plan you have purchased. You will also incur SkypeOut charges any time you use iSkoot to call a regular telephone number (as opposed to calling a Skype buddy), and for any incoming Skype calls you receive. For more detailed information concerning costs, please review the “What does it Cost to Use iSkoot” section on our iSkoot for Skype page. Please note: Skype’s promotional offers for SkypeOut calls to select countries may not apply when using iSkoot.
Do iSkoot calls count towards my mobile minutes usage?
Standard air time rates for your mobile phone calls will apply.
