The xda developers have done it. Again.
It’s now possible to jailbreak your G1 handset in just a few short steps. This is a big step towards unlocking Android’s potential, but one that likely doesn’t impact too many people. It will be the select, techie types who really want to go digging around. On the other hand, this might be just the move needed to help Android differentiate itself.
- Turn on WiFi and grab a network.
- Start PTerminal (found in the Android Market)
- Type cd system at prompt and hit Enter.
- Type cd bin and hit Enter.
- Type telnetd and hit Enter.
- Type netstat and hit Enter. This will display your IP addres
- Start up Terminal on your OS X machine, or bring up a command prompt on your Windows box. Type telnet [your.ip.address.we.just.found] and hit Enter/Return. So, if your IP was 192.168.1.101, you’d type telnet 192.168.1.101 and hit Enter/Return.
- You are logged in as root now. To remount the system file as read write, type mount -oremount,rw /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system from the Terminal/Command Prompt and hit Enter/Return.
We can’t wait to see what this does for the platform. It won’t be long until hacks start flying in from all directions.
