Sprint’s Q3 is More of the Same – Customer Exodus

The numbers are in for Sprint’s Q3 and they look almost the same as the last one.  And the one before that.

After losing yet another 1.3 million customers in one quarter, Sprint just can’t seem to stem the bleeding.  For whatever reasons, the nation’s third largest carrier hasn’t been able to slow things down much and get out of the red.

Sprint Nextel lost $326 million over the last quarter and saw its revenue fall to $8.8 billion.  These numbers are actually better than the Q2 where they were $344 million in the red but considerably worse than a year ago when they turned a $64 million profit on $10 billion of revenue.

Yes, we all know that the times are tough.  The economy is in the toilet and companies everywhere are hurting.  However Sprint has been losing customers at this clip for quite some time now.  It’s one thing to see people lowering rate plans, dropping data features, etc.  It’s another to see them leaving a carrier like this.

To their credit, they have been making good strides in customer service.  This is the backbone of any solid company and Sprint was looking really bad for a while.  CEO Dan Hesse has breathed a little fresh air in the provider, but the mountain is steep.

Things that might slowly turn things around for Sprint are the renewed interest in the Nextel P2T service, WiMAX, and continued focus on customer service.
