Silly Bug Affecting Pre-RC30 Android Handsets

If you have a G1 that has yet to see the RC30 update, be careful what you say!  More specifically, be careful what you type into your handset.  It seems the little green OS takes your commands literally.

Reports were coming in all over the weekend that whenever you type the letters REBOOT into your G1, it does just that.  Somehow, the device thinks everything one types is a command.  Check out the interesting scenarios that surfaced over this.

I was in the middle of a text conversation with my girl when she asked why I hadn’t responded. I had just rebooted my phone and the first thing I typed was a response to her text which simply stated “Reboot” – which, to my surprise, rebooted my phone.

With Android being open source, the community swooped into action and a fix was found.  Ed Burnette of ZDNet believes that something might have been left open in debugging process.
