The Androider

The estimates are starting to roll in from last weekend’s launch of Verizon’s Droid handsets.  Unofficially, the number is pegged at 100,000 units moved.  This figure comes from  Mark McKechnie, an analyst at Broadpoint AmTech Inc.  who said Verizon had 200,000 Droids ready to go.   Selling through half the stock in one weekend is a good sign for the troubled handset maker.

“I see the first few days as encouraging,” McKechnie said. “There seems to be pretty good demand — they’ve taken the right steps and picked a good partner with Google on the Android side.”

Another analyst, Jim Suva of  Citigroup Inc. says Motorola is on the road to recovery and expects the handset maker to move around 1.3 million Android phones in this 4th quarter.
