LG’s Korean website shot out a press release this morning announcing their “Amundsen” (GW880) handset. This marks the second official Android phone, following the Eve. Bound for China Mobile, Amundsen will use the OPhone blend of Android.
We’ve done our best to piece together a translated webpage so here goes… Specs for the handset include a 3.5″ (800X480 WVGA) touchscreen, a 5 mega-pixel camera, Mobile TV (CMMB), GPS, Bluetooth, and China’s special 3G TD-SCDMA connectivity. The phone will also have access to the China Mobile App Store for downloading apps.
We weren’t immediately able to pick out the release date except for “the end of this month” which is a pretty short window. If any of you can make heads or tales of the translation, feel free to leave a comment.
The nickname ‘Amundsen’ comes from the first person to reach both the North and South Poles. The previous codename for Eve was ‘Etna’, also expedition and climbing related.
