We received an email late this evening from Qik co-founder Bhaskar Roy who wanted to clear the air on the recent rumor that their video chat service will run an extra $5 per month. He told us “the core features of 2-way video chat and live video sharing from phone to phones, web, desktop will be FREE. What we’ll be rolling out are optional premium features that users can subscribe to.“
We were directed to check out their latest blog posting which adds that the company is currently working on some advanced premium features which would require the premium fee. They expect to make an official announcement on June 4th, the same day the EVO 4G launches. This is actually pretty good news and we’re only too happy to help put out a fire we helped start. Any guesses as to what the premium services might be?
Thanks Bhaskar for taking the time to set to things straight!
