When you try to add a second google account on your android phone with 2.1 or below it may result with an error telling “Can’t establish a reliable data connection to the server”. This does not change if you use wifi or mobile net. As I read it is some kind of bugged VPN handling, and most forums recommend factory resetting and routing yuor phone and other forceful ways.
