Samsung GT-19220 Photo Leaked, Packs a huge AMOLED display [Update]

Here is a photo that will most likely get those rumor mills stirring again. We aren’t sure exactly what we are looking at, or how big the screen is but comparing it to the 4.0″ display on the Galaxy S next to it, I’d say it’s pretty large. Sources are claiming this to be the new Samsung GT-I9220 that we recently saw on a leaked Samsung roadmap. While the leak is claiming it to possibly be a 5.29″ AMOLED display with a 1280×720p resolution the leaked roadmap suggests something much smaller for the GT-I9220.

Update: After a few tips and a closer look this is nothing more than the 5″ Samsung Galaxy S Player. As in not a phone, only Samsung’s recently seen music player to compete with the iPod. Sorry guys!

Details are still a bit blurry but they are stating this Samsung beast will indeed have a high resolution Super AMOLED display with a 1280×720p resolution. Rocking a blazing fast 1.4 Ghz dual-core processor and more. While this device could in fact have a huge 5.3″ display the leaked roadmap suggests the GT-I9220 would have only a 4.3″ screen but the image shown above clearly shows something larger than that.

Could this be the GT-I9250 that we also heard about. The roadmap suggested that device would have a 4.65″ AMOLED display and that would line up a bit better with the size of the screen shown in the leaked image. Our sources at AndroidUP claim this might be called the Samsung Galaxy S II Plus at launch and we might see it sometime around October 24th. Either way the photo sure is exciting, we don’t have a lot of details but would love to get some hands-on time with the phone.

What do you guys think of the photo above? Look like a 5.29″ screen to you, or more like 4.65″ or so? Tell us below in the comments.

Apps of the Day: Sleipnir, Classic Notes Lite, and More

This image has no alt text

Every day we peruse the Android Market looking for the best, worst, interesting, and most unique apps in an effort to sift out a few gems. We call it Apps of the Day. We can’t guarantee that every app featured below is a real winner, but each is worth at least a quick look. It’s all in an effort to help you, our faithful readers, get the most out of your Android handsets. Read on to see what we found today!

Google Docs - Google Docs has been updated with support for 45 new languages. Also included is a new “Web Clipboard” feature that allows you to snap a photo with your Android handset and have it stored in the cloud for quick pasting into a Google Doc from your home computer. The updates don’t do much to create a deeper experience, and for the most part Google Docs still retains the feel of a slightly polished portal for the Google Docs website. Still, if you are a frequent user of Docs on the go, the Web Clipboard feature might be something to check out. [Market]

Classic Notes Lite - While most note taking applications focus on adding features upon features, often missing the point that at their core they should be easily accessible and easy to use, Classic Notes Lite + App Box manages to provide a minimalistic interface that doesn’t sacrifice quality. It’s really simple to open the app and jot down a note or list, but buried beneath a deceptively bland user interface is a whole mess of features and tools that create one extremely useful application. Aside from taking simple notes, Classic Notes Lite allows for calculations and conversions, geotagging, search, and phone use information all in one place. Download it to take some notes, but begin poking around and open up a world of uses. [Market]

Sleipnir Mobile Web Browser – OK, so you’re probably thinking, “we can’t possibly need another Android web broswer.” But here us out on this one. Sleipnir, though still in its beta phases, shows a lot of promise with a polished user interface and web surfing actions based around gestures. For instance, drawing a clockwise circle mimicking your standard browser’s refresh button quickly reloads the page. Tabs can be navigated with simple side-to-side swiping. While the finished product might not be totally there, the concept is. [Market]

QNX-Powered BlackBerry Handsets to Receive Android Application Support

This image has no alt text

Just as RIM has promised Android Application support on its BlackBerry PlayBook tablet, Bloomberg is reporting that the same functionality will eventually migrate to the manufacturer’s future lineup of QNX-powered smartphones. We won’t see the new QNX devices until at least next year, but the move is a smart one as more and more developers flock to Android application development. The phones will run on a different version of the BlackBerry OS than does the PlayBook, which still awaits the release of its promised emulator for running apps from the Android Market. RIM might be a bit smarter to have the capability ready to go out of the box come the release of their next generation smartphones.

HTC Bliss photos caught in the wild again

The HTC Bliss smartphone for women that we have seen a few rumors about is hitting the streets again today. Another sighting has appeared and someone was able to snap a few good, quality photos of the device. We originally heard a nice greenish color would be wrapped around the device but these new pictures make it hard to tell.

A few weeks ago we also received a few leaked photos of the Bliss but they were blurry and didn’t reveal much so these new ones are much appreciated. We’ve heard a few rumors that this device will be aimed right at the ladies in the smartphone world, sort of like the HTC Glamor. Seen next to another device in the pictures above we can assume it will most likely have a 3.7″ display and we’ve already heard an 800 Mhz processor, 5MP camera on the rear with VGA front camera for video chat.

Original reports suggested it would have a charm type attachment or something that would light up whenever a user receives a notification. The picture above it appears the back has a different texture as you can see that lip on the bottom. Suggesting maybe the bottom of the phone or the back will light up upon receiving said notifications. That original idea can be seen here. Sources are also claiming Android 2.3 Gingerbread as well as Sense UI 3.5 and that the phone will have a few unique features other HTC offerings do not. This lines up nicely with the fact it will be aimed for women and might have a unique notification lighting system and more.

We should be hearing more about the HTC Bliss shortly, maybe during the upcoming HTC event so be sure and stay tuned.

Leaked Verizon Doc Suggests Pricing and Dates for HTC Bliss, Samsung Stratosphere [UPDATE - FAKE]

A freshly leaked Verizon document has arrived today, shedding new light on a pair of unannounced Android smart phones.  Take a look at the image to the left and you’ll see the female-centric HTC Bliss has a new expected launch date of October 14th, two weeks later than its original September 29th date.  Pricing looks to be right in line with most Android handsets at $199.99 with a presumed two-year service agreement.

Now, on to the  SCHi9250GT Samsung Stratosphere.  If the model number sounds familiar it’s because that’s the one getting tied to all the Nexus Prime stuff.  Strange right?  Rumors suggest the phone will run Ice Cream Sandwich and feature a 4.65-inch (1280×720) display and 5-megapixel camera.  The last time we checked, whispers indicated this would not arrive until the end of November.  We’ve heard that Google was inching up the release of Ice Cream Sandwich however the September 29th launch seems a tad premature.  One thing’s for certain, the $299 price indicates 4G LTE support and, we assume, a host of other goodies.

The more we think about it, the more this sounds like a new-era, larger Galaxy S II. Maybe Samsung was right when they said that these specs were “inaccurate”.  We’ll find out for sure in the next few days as Samsung takes to the stage to unveil the U.S. iterations of the Galaxy S II.

NOTE: The image you see was initially found on Android Central , more specifically their forums.  We’d love to link you to both spots but neither return a valid URL at this point.

UPDATE: And now we know why it’s gone.  Apparently this came from a forum troll who has subsequently been banned.  The document was found to be faked.  Move along, nothing to see!

Verizon’s Chief Counsel Seeks Presidential Aid in Patent Wars

This image has no alt text

Chief counsel for Verizon Wireless Randall Milch thinks the current patent wars between a large majority of major players in the US smartphone market have gone too far. So far, in fact, that Milch is appealing to President Obama for assistance in heading off rulings that could force the ban of sales of many popular devices. Seeing the negative impact of such, the thought is that Obama should take a stance against banning products outright and overturn any decisions to that effect. It is Milch’s belief that companies should only have to pay royalties, if anything, to the winning parties of ongoing patent lawsuits.

HTC Bliss Handled in The Wild

The folks over at XDA.cn have gotten their hands on some clear pictures of the upcoming HTC Bliss. The device is beginning to look like a cousin to the Wildfire S, with capacitive buttons and modest specs. Initial rumors give the Bliss HTC Sense 3.5, a 3.7-inch display, and an 800MHz single-core processor. With IFA coming up soon, we shouldn’t have to wait long to find out more about this device. Check out the rest of the pictures after the break, including one next to a Desire S. So who’s excited about the HTC Bliss now that we have a better look at it?
